Solar Lighting
Miscellaneous Uses Around Home

solar tube A solar tube was installed for renewable lighting to brighten up a dimmly lit area during the day. We installed one in the kitchen and in the hallway as they are pretty dark areas even during the day. They do not produce the heat that as traditional skylight. When the moon is bright moonlight shines through. We kept trying to turn off the lights when we first installed them. It took a while to get used to light in the kitchen. It has been a wonderful addition.

solar nite lightMalibu lights were placed in areas where we walk at night. They are in the living room, hallway and both bathrooms. They automatically come on at dusk and go off at sunrise. There is a small panel attached to the side of the house. The only maintainence is changing the rechargeable batteries every couple of years. I know that these lights are intended to be runners for outside but for us, this is a better use.

solar candle The same goes for our candle. We set them outside during the day and bring them in at night. They fit perfectly in a fence wire right outside of the kitchen. If you set two or three of them on the dining room table, it makes a wonderful dining light. Ron made holders from blocks of wood. They aren't fancy but they work very well. They are the same size as a regular candle so they will fit in conventional candle holders. Lights are not being turned on and off all night.

This idea came from one of our neighbors. They use them all the time.
