OFFGRID ROOF

The offgrid roof was rolled roofing mainly because of the cost. We wanted to put metal roofing on originally but financially that was not possible. We started with asphalt covered felt. It was nailed down with roofing nails and tin cap discs in 18 ft sections overlapped edges by 4 inches. Then the drip edging was nailed on all four sides.

We picked white to help reflect the sun. A 9 inch border was laid around the perimeter. Then the rolled roofing was nailed and Henry's 203 Cold Ap Roof Build up Roofing Cement was applied at each overlapping joint.

The vertical overlap was 6 inches and the horizontal overlap was 4 inches. Some people do not nail down the asphalt roofing but Ron thought that the gusty winds that we get, it would be added protection.

There are several different kinds of rolled roofing each with its own installation instructions which need to be followed.
