OFFGRID ROOF RAFTERS HOISTED
The offgrid roof rafters rested upon supporting beams that are 4 X 8's held up by the concrete block wall dividing the house in half. This is also where the 2 feet of concrete was poured in the
construction of the concrete slab.
Here we made an alcove for the pantry and one for the wood stove to be recessed in the living room.
It took Ron and Herb (my brother) roughly three days to complete the 2 x 12 x 20's, 24" on center. The roof height is a graduation of 8' to 12' shed style roof. The block boards were put in every four feet to keep the wood from twisting. We bought a small 4'x 6' trailer to pick up and haul material around the property.
The roof rafters were overlapped so that no cutting had to be done. Special care was taken to make them line up evenly. And they were perfect.
Done for the day Thanks Herb for all of your help. It would have been an impossible job for Ron as I figure I would have only been a hindrance. I know my limitations.
This is the last board going up for the rafters. It was a long, hard three days lifting, placing and nailing 20 ft. boards with only two people.
