OFFGRID ROOF INSULATION

Rafters insulation

Offgrid roof insulation in the summer months in the desert is essential. I took a lot of "heat" for the insulation that we eventually put in the ceiling. We put in 10 inches of R-30 insulation in the roof, hence the need for the 2 x 12 rafters. We have no attic in our home, therefore, the 2 x 12's allowed the 2 inch air gap between the roof and the insulation. Once half of the insulation was up, the temperature in the house dropped by at least 5 degrees. After it was all up it dropped by 10 degrees. Since heat rises it was very hot working up by the ceiling.

Rafters Insulation 3 There is also R13 insulation in the 2 x 4's above the block. I would have liked to have put R19, but could not find it for 2 x 4 construction locally. This had to be pieced together and all of the insulation had to be cut to make it fit. Itchy-itchy-not sure how I managed to get this job.
