OFFGRID ROOF OSB
SUBROOFING-NAILED IT

Rafters-OSB-north side The offgrid roof OSB was hoisted up to the roof from a ladder held by pipe clamps. Then it was pulled to the roof and nailed. It took 50-4' x 8' sheets of OSB to complete the subroofing.

My cousin and our neighbor helped install the OSB. They finished this job over a weekend. Ron had to take advantage of any help that was given to him. This usually meant working everyone to death for a couple of days. This also meant no one wanted to come back for a long time. As with the rest of the house, it was all nailed by hand. The roof is approximately 1600 sq. ft.

OSB is made of aspen-poplar strands, southern yellow pine or mixed hardwood species. However, the strands in the outer faces of OSB are normally oriented along the long axis of the panel thereby, like plywood, making it stronger along the long axis as compared to the narrow axis.

Rafters-H clamps

Between the sheets of OSB are H clamps to hold the spacing and to allow for expansion and contraction.

Ron done

I guess this pretty much says it all. Ron on top of the world and dog tired.

Rafters-OSB-cousin Just thought this was a great picture at the end of the world.
