There were many offgrid construction styles of homes fit for the blistering desert heat and cold. We researched many alternative construction types. We knew that no matter what type of home we built we would need a well, solar and septic which carry a hefty cost by themselves.

We researched adobe, dry stack concrete block, straw bale, kits, SIPs and manufactured homes.

We made pros and cons to our situation on whether to build, have a contractor, do some of the work ourselves and subcontract or put up a manufactured home.

The pages that follow are some of the types that we had researched before making our decision. This decision process took 2 years. We went back and forth and honestly the older we got the less interested in building we became. It came down to now or I would never convince Ron to take on such a huge project.
