MONSOON SEASON DESERT STYLE

Monsoon 1 These pictures were taken at the end of monsoon season. It only takes a couple of minutes for the rain to be several inches deep. We have a trench on the east side of our property which catches or diverts some of the water.

The roads were totally flooded. We drove through gushing water tearing across the road that was about 1 1/2 feet deep. There were some cars that just waited it out. Unfortunately, they are usually in the middle of the road because they don't want to get too close and get swept into the wash.

Monsoon 2 When the winds pick up with the rain everything goes flying across the yard. We try to turn things over or put them out of the way of the windows before the rain hits, but sometimes it is unexpected.

You can see the rain coming over the mountains like a wall moving toward you. At first you aren't sure what you are seeing. It just looks like dark lines approaching from the clouds.

Monsoon 3 This year we got rain every afternoon for about three weeks. Then it was intermittent. We had our clothes still out on the line during one rain storm and it completely bent the pole over onto the ground along with our clothes.

It is amazing the different insects and animals that come out during the rains. They seem to have a very short emergence just a couple of weeks and then a different set appears.
