  • CATTLE HERDERS
    1. These dogs were bred to:
      • Move cattle over long distances without
        human direction
      • Spend entire days working
      • Works every day
      • Companionship
    2. Included in this group are:
      • Bouvier des Flanders
      • Briard
      • Cardigan Welsh Corgi
      • Pembroke Welsh Corgi
      • Australian Cattle Dog
      • (a.k.a. Blue Heeler, Queensland Heeler
        and Australian Heeler
    3. Characteristics:
      • Very intelligent, good problem solvers
      • Energetic, athletic
      • Independent
      • MUST have things to do
      • Aloof with strangers
    4. Potential Issues:
      • Destructive when bored
      • Possessive of food/objects
      • Fear biting, nipping if not properly
        trained or socialized
      • Can be smippy/skiddish around small
        children
      • Can be dominant around other dogs
      • Grooming, shedding

  • SHEEP HERDERS
    1. These were bred to:
      • Move not guard sheep
      • Work with or without direction
        from people
      • Works daily
      • Companionship
    2. Included in this group are:
      • Bearded Collie
      • Belgian Malinois
      • Border Collie
      • Old English Sheepdog
      • Puli
      • Shetland Sheepdog
      • Border Collie
    3. Characteristics:
      • Agile and very active, enjoys working
      • Intelligent, easy to train, eager
        to please
      • Independent thinkers, problem solvers
      • Not prone to roaming
      • Good with children
    4. Potential Issues:
      • Mischievous when bored
      • Possessive of food/objects
      • Fear biting when not properly
        trained or socialized
      • Grooming, shedding
