CONCRETE SLAB
COOL IN SUMMER, WARM IN WINTER

Our concrete slab foundation was poured at our homesite by an outside contractor in November 2005. The slab is 2 ft. deep in the center of the house for the load bearing wall. They made cross cuts in the concrete to reduce cracking.

We told them that we would probably not be doing any flooring over the concrete. We were going to stain and seal it. They did a beautiful job with the slab.

We had it poured four inches inside the first row of concrete blocks. Our thinking was it would cut down on the critters able to get in from outside. If we were not above ground level during monsoon season our floors would be flooded.

We laid out our blocks to get a visual of our rooms. We made several modifications once we could see the layout. On paper, everything looked bigger. We modified the kitchen, living room and hallway. There were some things that just could not be changed.

You can see the kitchen plumbing (left)and were the two bathrooms will be(right). The plumbing and the venting are sticking up out of the concrete.

Everyone looks for floor coverings that will last, be easy to clean, and fit with the rest of the house, butWhich Home Improvements Will Add Value?
