How We Got Here

I started our website to share how and why we built off grid. I wanted other people who were looking to build offgrid to have simple home site to give encouragement and hopefully some useful information.

The Arizona housing market had tripled and I knew this meant one thing. It was going to fall. I had been through this in California in the 1980s.

We had already bought the land so we decided to build. We were looking at our retirement. We would move here once we retired. Ron quit his job and moved here for 10 months building the house.

It was difficult living apart. It got to a point where we were both making decisions independently of one another. We were not really a couple anymore. It was time to make a change.

Ron had the shell of the house done and moved back to Phoenix and got another job. He was back for a couple of months and I was told that my job was being outsourced to India. We had to make yet another a decision to leave Phoenix or try to find another job in a declining market. We chose to move into our home that was a shell.

It was difficult leaving my mom and sister as that was not our original plan. We wanted to stay in Phoenix until we retired and our back up plan was to move when we were ready. Well, best laid plans.

It took Ron three months to find a job here. It took me six months. We were doing pretty well. We have all of the comforts of home.

We live 25 miles from any town that has work. In today's economy there is no work. Ron got laid off in February 2010. He has yet to find a job. I quit my job in April 2010. We will just say they were very mean to me.

Neither of us can find a job. We toyed with the idea of my going back to Phoenix for work. The upside is I would stay with my sister and mom. The downside is we would be apart again. It took a toll on us before.

We had depended on someone else for the means to provide us with food, clothing and the necessities of life. There is no job security in our country today. We needed to find a way to be in control of our future.

What was I thinking!!!!

We have a website. We can make money on this website. And here we are.

SBI stands for Site Build It. It is a way to use hobbies, passions, skills and/or knowledge to build a money making business. You do not need programming skills or webdesign knowledge, there is no business and no product to sell.

SBI has all the tools you will need and step by step instructions and guidance. They help you find your niche, how to build it and drive traffic to it.

Have a look at the Video Tour or Quick Tour if you have dial up.

At first it is a lot of hard work. I was not terribly web literate. After a couple of head banging sessions, I did pretty well. Learned a lot about myself, what I am comfortable dealing with and what needed work.

I make money mostly through Google Ads. I am paid when someone clicks on the ads. I write articles which draws people to our website and I blog.

Try SBI Share your passion, knowledge or skill with others.
